Kelly Conlon is an American
bassist
hailing from Long Island, NY. He started
playing tuba at the age of 10 years old
in elementary school. After the tuba
(and moving to the county of Nassau)
he found himself moving through various
brass instruments such as: baritone,
trombone and finally trumpet. He
continued to play trumpet through out
high school in the jazz and concert bands.
After high school Kelly moved down to the
Sunshine State a.k.a. Florida. This is where
Kelly decided to switch from brass
instruments to some thing else. Here, he
decided on the bass guitar, remembering
from school how big the sound was
compared to the trumpet. At age 18, a new
state and nothing but the bass as a friend,
he played up to 6 hours every day honing
his craft.
Growing up in NY he listened to
Motown,
Jazz, Rock, and Heavy Metal. He took
these influences and added some of it all
to his own style.
Kelly played with various bands
consisting
of rock and progressive styles
(TALONZFURY band) as well as Death Metal
(VESICANT.)
Just after 7 years of learning the
bass
(finger style exclusively) Kelly was asked
to audition for the metal band DEATH.
He ended up playing on the album "Symbolic" followed
by his first European tour.
In 1996, Kelly joined another
metal band;
Monstrosity. He played with Monstrosity for
3 years playing on albums "MILLENNIUM"
and "IN DARK PURITY."
After Monstrosity and the Death
Metal scene
overall, Kelly wanted to go back to some
of his roots.
He then moved back up north where he is currently
playing with the band INFINITY MINUS ONE,
A progressive style metal band.
INFINITY MINUS ONE released an album in 2007 entitled
"INFERNAL MACHINE."
Playing various gigs with other
bands and
studying just as he did when he started,
and after 20 years playing bass, Kelly finds
himself still honing his craft.
He exclusively endorses CONKLIN
BASSES,
DR STRINGS, BLUE NOTE STRAPS, and
CARVIN
amps/cabinets.
